“12-Year-Old Critical After Electric Scooter Crash”

A 12-year-old boy is in critical condition following a collision involving an electric scooter and a car in Newcastle.

The incident occurred on Earsdon Close, near West Denton Way, on Sunday evening. The boy was riding the scooter on the footpath and tried to cross the junction with Earsdon Close when a red Volvo V40 car traveling on the road hit him.

The boy sustained severe injuries and was transported to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary, where he remains in a life-threatening state. His family has been notified and is receiving support from specialized officers.

The driver of the Volvo, a 48-year-old man, stopped at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury due to careless driving. He has been released pending further investigation.

The incident led to a significant emergency response, including 10 police vehicles, ambulance crews, and paramedics. The road was closed for several hours but reopened later in the evening.

Northumbria Police’s Roads Policing team is conducting an inquiry and is urging witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward.
