A man in St Petersburg, Timur Demidenko, is accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend, believing she was a British spy. Before the incident, he allegedly decapitated a pigeon and then ran naked into the street. Police were alerted by concerned neighbors and found the woman’s body in Demidenko’s apartment, where he confessed to the crime, claiming he was protecting Russia from a supposed British agent.
Demidenko expressed remorse for the killing and will undergo psychiatric evaluations as part of the murder investigation. In a separate incident in the same city, Yevgeny Andreyev surrendered to authorities after murdering his girlfriend, Daria Perevozchikova, during an argument. Andreyev lived with her body for several weeks, using her phone to mislead her loved ones and keeping a window open to mask the smell of decomposition. He eventually turned himself in to the police after seeking advice from a lawyer friend.
Both cases have sparked investigations by the authorities in St Petersburg.
