Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson declined to address the speculation surrounding the alleged secret transfer of Iran’s new supreme leader for urgent medical treatment in Russia. Mojtaba Khamenei, 56, was reportedly gravely injured during an Israeli strike on February 28, resulting in the deaths of several family members, including his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. While Iranian sources acknowledged his injuries, confirming he was hospitalized, the specifics of his condition remain unverified.

Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for the Russian president, refrained from confirming or refuting reports suggesting Mojtaba’s covert evacuation from Iran for medical care in a Russian facility. He stated, “We do not comment on such reports,” in response to the inquiries.

Initial reports originating from Kuwait, citing Iranian sources, indicated that a close aide to the new leader disclosed to Al-Jarida newspaper that Mojtaba was transported to Moscow aboard a Russian military aircraft in a clandestine operation due to his health and security concerns.

Allegedly, upon his arrival in Russia, Mojtaba underwent a successful surgical procedure before continuing treatment at a hospital within one of President Putin’s official residences. However, the authenticity of these claims remains unconfirmed.

Following US President Donald Trump’s insinuation that the supreme leader might be deceased, Israel declared they were aware of Mojtaba’s whereabouts. Trump remarked on Saturday, casting doubt on Mojtaba’s status and suggesting strategic actions for the benefit of his nation.

Speculations suggest that Russia may be sharing intelligence with Iran, aiding in military operations against Western bases in the Middle East. Lieutenant General Nick Perry highlighted the apparent provision of tactical guidance to Iran by Russia, manifesting in altered drone tactics observed in the region.

Defense Secretary John Healey expressed suspicions of Putin’s covert involvement in supporting Iran’s actions amidst the conflict triggered by the US and Israel. He emphasized the potential benefits to Putin from escalated oil prices, fueling his military endeavors in Ukraine. He underscored the likelihood of Putin favoring the ongoing conflict to serve his interests.
