“Major Truck Collision Causes Gridlock on M3”

Share

Long delays have formed on a major highway following a severe accident involving two large trucks. The M3 eastbound in Surrey has been shut down between J3 Bagshot Interchange and J2 Thorpe Interchange on Thursday, March 19, leading to a complete standstill in traffic.

One of the trucks collided with a gantry, while the other truck suffered a ruptured fuel tank, causing a significant diesel spillage on the road. Responding to the incident, Surrey Police, Surrey Fire and Rescue, South East Coast Ambulance Service, along with National Highways’ traffic officers and contractors, are currently at the scene.

National Highways issued a statement advising motorists to allow extra time for their journeys if affected by the closure. They suggested considering alternative routes or delaying travel plans where possible. The closure is expected to last for an extended period due to debris on the road.

Surrey Fire and Rescue reported receiving a call at 4 am regarding the collision on the M3 between junctions 3 and 2, leading to the closure of eastbound lanes. Both drivers involved in the accident are safe and receiving medical evaluation.

Traffic cameras captured the extensive congestion on the M3 following the serious crash and fuel spill, prompting National Highways to anticipate delays of around 30 minutes. Road users are advised to follow the diversion route marked with a solid diamond symbol on road signs until further notice.
