A tragic incident occurred as a young male lost his life in a fire at a flat located in close proximity to a fire station in Southwark, southern London. The fire erupted at a flat on Cooper’s Road and was swiftly responded to by the London Fire Brigade (LFB) on Wednesday.

The LFB disclosed that the fire broke out on the first floor of a six-story building near the Old Kent Road Fire Station. Approximately 25 firefighters and four fire engines were deployed to combat the blaze, which was successfully controlled shortly after 4.30 pm.

Upon arrival, one teenage boy had already evacuated the premises and was promptly transported to a hospital. Sadly, another adolescent perished at the scene, as confirmed by the LFB the next day.

The fire service was alerted to the emergency just before 3 pm and promptly dispatched crews from several fire stations including Dockhead, Dowgate, Shadwell, and Whitechapel. Additionally, a 64m turntable ladder from the Old Kent Road Fire Station reached the site within six minutes of the distress call.

According to an LFB spokesperson, one fire engine from Old Kent Road was initially engaged in a separate incident but later returned to assist at the scene. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the LFB’s Fire Investigation Unit in conjunction with the Metropolitan Police.
