“Salford Park Incident: Gym Vest Misunderstanding Resolved”

Share

A mistaken alert prompted a heavy police presence at a park in Salford on Friday afternoon. Mandley Park was swarmed by officers following reports of a suspicious individual wearing a black, padded vest. The police response was swift after receiving the call just before noon, with armed officers quickly surrounding the man in question.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the individual was actually wearing a weighted gym vest and carrying a skipping rope for exercise purposes. A spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) clarified, stating that the situation was a false alarm and posed no danger to the surrounding community. The park is centrally located within Salford’s Jewish community, approximately a mile away from the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue where a terror incident occurred last October.

The Community Security Trust (CST), a charity dedicated to safeguarding Jewish communities in the UK, advised residents to comply with police directives during the unfolding incident. CST confirmed that the situation at Mandley Park had been resolved, and the police confirmed there was no broader risk to public safety.

The initial report originated from Bristol Street in Salford around 11:52 am. Police quickly ascertained that the individual was innocently wearing a weighted gym vest and using a skipping rope at an outdoor gym facility. As a result, the incident was deemed a false alarm, with no threat to the wider community.

Law enforcement’s response to the incident has caused partial blockage on the A576 Leicester Road in both directions between Northumberland Street and Devonshire Street. However, authorities have reassured that there are no additional risks to the community. Video footage circulating online depicts the man being apprehended by police at Mandley Park and escorted to a police vehicle.

The GMP is expected to provide a comprehensive statement on the matter. CST, in line with its mission to protect Jewish communities, issued guidance urging adherence to law enforcement instructions until further notice. Reports indicate that a man was detained wearing a weighted vest, as shown in the footage from the scene where armed officers can be observed surrounding the individual.

The incident at Mandley Park in Salford has attracted significant attention, with armed police seen confronting the man in the vest while he was on his knees. Images from the scene depict a man in a black vest lying on the ground, prompting warnings for people to steer clear of the area. The police presence has been amplified, with a helicopter patrolling the Broughton Park vicinity. Authorities responded to reports of a man in a vest at Mandley Park, with visuals capturing police aiming firearms at the individual in question.
