“Former Conservative MP Admits Crystal Meth Possession”

Shamed former Conservative MP Crispin Blunt has admitted to four drug-related charges, including the possession of crystal meth. Blunt, a former justice minister during the tenure of David Cameron, was apprehended in 2023 after law enforcement discovered illegal substances in his residence during a search. The 65-year-old confessed to drug possession during a brief appearance at Westminster Magistrates Court earlier today.

Having served as the MP for Reigate from 1997 to 2024, Blunt voluntarily resigned from his position after the Conservative Party withdrew his party membership following the drug-related incident. The substances found in his possession included GBL, a sedative, alongside cannabis, methamphetamine, and methylamphetamine (commonly referred to as crystal meth). Blunt acknowledged one charge of possessing class A drugs and three counts of possessing class B drugs.

The discovery of the drugs occurred during an investigation into suspicions of rape involving Blunt. After an 18-month inquiry, Surrey Police announced last year that there was insufficient evidence to proceed with the rape allegation.

Regarding the recent charges, Malcolm McHaffie, the head of the Crown Prosecution Service’s Special Crime Division, stated, “We have opted to charge Crispin Blunt, 65, with four drug-related offenses – one count of possessing a controlled substance of Class A and three counts of possessing a controlled substance of Class B. The charges stem from a police visit to Mr. Blunt’s residence in Horley on 25 October 2023, which was related to a separate issue. Our prosecutors have diligently assessed the evidence to bring this case to court, deeming it in the public interest to proceed with legal action. We have collaborated closely with Surrey Police throughout their investigative process.”

Following his initial arrest in October 2023, Blunt was stripped of the Conservative Party whip and later stepped down from his parliamentary duties during the 2024 general election. Prior to his political career, he served in the British Army for over a decade and is a graduate of the Sandhurst Military Academy.
