“Seals and Crofts Co-Founder Dash Crofts Dies at 85”

Dash Crofts, one part of the renowned American soft rock duo Seals and Crofts, known for their popular hits like Summer Breeze, has passed away at the age of 85. The Texas-born musician, whose birth name was Darrell “Dash” Crofts, was recognized for his contributions to soft rock music with tracks such as Diamond Girl and Get Closer, which he performed alongside Jimmy Seals.

The news of his passing was shared by his producer Louie Shelton on Thursday, March 26. Shelton expressed his condolences on Facebook, honoring Crofts as a beloved musical partner and sending love and prayers to his family and fans. According to TMZ, the musician’s family confirmed that his death resulted from complications following heart surgery.

Friends and colleagues have paid tribute to Crofts, remembering him as a true music legend who played a significant role in creating timeless songs. US country singer Pauline Reese shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, reminiscing about her interactions with Crofts and acknowledging his musical impact.

Crofts’ musical counterpart, James “Jimmy” Seals, passed away in 2022 at the age of 80. Together, Seals and Crofts formed in the late 1960s, showcasing their talents as singers and instrumentalists. While the duo disbanded in 1980, they reunited in subsequent years to release their final album, Traces.

During the band’s hiatus, Crofts pursued a solo career, releasing an album titled Today in 1998. He also spent time working on a farm in Texas and enjoyed family life with his wife Billie Lee Day and their daughters, Amelia and Lua, both of whom are involved in music. Amelia is part of the musical group the Humming Birds, which includes fellow musicians with ties to Seals and Crofts.

Seals and Crofts, along with other soft rock acts like Hall and Oates and America, left a lasting impact on the music industry. Despite their eventual disbandment, their music continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.
