“Trump Suggests Renaming Key Passage ‘Strait of Trump'”

Donald Trump hinted at the idea of renaming a significant global shipping passage to the “Strait of Trump.” Speaking at an event in Miami supported by the Saudi Arabia sovereign wealth fund, Trump expressed confidence in the progress of the US military in its ongoing conflict with Iran.

The focal point of the current tension lies in the blocked Strait of Hormuz, disrupting international trade. Trump appeared to downplay the seriousness of the situation by jokingly proposing a name change. He quipped, “They have to open up the Strait of Trump… I mean Hormuz!” before correcting himself and dismissing any potential criticism as fake news.

Drawing a parallel to a previous incident, Trump recalled renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America, emphasizing his decisive approach. Meanwhile, the United Nations has established a specialized task force to address the repercussions of the Iran war on humanitarian aid and agriculture passing through the critical waterway.

UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stressed the urgency of immediate action to alleviate the crisis caused by the conflict. The task force, composed of representatives from various UN agencies, will focus on devising technical solutions to facilitate the passage of essential aid through the strait, following successful models from previous UN initiatives.

In response, Iranian Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, Ali Bahreini, confirmed Iran’s cooperation with the UN’s request to ensure the safe transit of vital humanitarian aid and agricultural shipments through the region. Bahreini highlighted Iran’s commitment to supporting humanitarian efforts and ensuring the timely delivery of aid to those in need.
