Britain has inked a historic deal with Ukraine, providing a substantial drone package to bolster efforts against Vladimir Putin’s forces ahead of the upcoming summer combat season. The agreement includes a massive shipment of 120,000 drones, comprising units for land surveillance, maritime strikes, and intelligence gathering, destined for Ukraine.

Russia has been experiencing significant losses on the battlefield, with daily casualties surpassing 1,000 soldiers. The Kremlin is facing challenges in replenishing its ranks due to recruitment difficulties, resulting in a shortfall of battle-ready reinforcements for troops injured or killed, often by drone attacks.

This initiative signifies a substantial investment in British companies, fostering economic growth and creating defense-related job opportunities in the UK. The announcement coincides with Defense Secretary John Healey’s participation in a Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting in Berlin.

The Ministry of Defense stated that the UK’s largest-ever drone package for Ukraine comprises various drones, including long-range strike drones, intelligence and reconnaissance drones, logistics drones, and maritime capabilities proven effective on Ukraine’s frontlines. Deliveries of these drones to Ukraine have already commenced this month.

The strategic use of drones has played a critical role in Ukrainian counterattacks and defense against ongoing Russian aggression. Notably, Russia launched approximately 6,500 attack drones against Ukraine in March 2026, emphasizing the escalating conflict dynamics.

Healey attended the 34th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in Berlin alongside key officials from Germany, Ukraine, and NATO. Most of the investment will benefit UK-based companies, such as Tekever, Windracers, and Malloy Aeronautics, contributing to job creation and reinforcing Ukraine’s security and sovereignty.

The advancement of the British drone sector enhances national security, supports European deterrence efforts, and drives innovation across the UK. Defense Secretary John Healey MP emphasized the UK’s commitment to providing a record number of drones to Ukraine, empowering its defense capabilities against Russian aggression while reaffirming solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

The UK’s comprehensive military support for Ukraine this year, including the drone package and additional funding, underscores its commitment to aiding Ukraine in its defense efforts. The Defense Secretary also confirmed the provision of artillery rounds and air defense missiles to Ukraine this year.
