EE has unveiled an enhanced version of its Scam Guard service to combat the growing threat of scams. The upgrade, priced at £2 per month for EE pay-monthly mobile customers, aims to provide improved protection against the escalating number of cyber scams targeting phones in the UK.
Since its initial launch in 2024, EE’s Scam Guard has already thwarted 169 million scam and spam attempts. With the upgraded version, EE anticipates doubling the number of prevented scams over the next year.
The core of the new Scam Guard is the AI Triple-Lock Protection, featuring three key components powered by Norton’s Genie AI engine. Safe Email offers proactive scam protection for email accounts round the clock, while Safe SMS employs advanced AI to identify sophisticated scams in text messages, ensuring real-time protection for users. Additionally, Safe Web utilizes AI to safeguard customers while they shop or browse online by blocking malicious websites before any harm occurs.
The enhanced Scam Guard also introduces Scam Assistant, enabling users to upload screenshots of suspicious texts, emails, websites, or social media messages for instant feedback on their safety. Moreover, Social Media Monitoring and Dark Web Monitoring are included to track suspicious activities across a user’s online presence and promptly alert them to take necessary actions.
Malcolm Cubitt, Director of Product, Mobile at EE, emphasized the importance of adapting to combat evolving cyber threats. He stated, “With fraud at a record high in the UK, AI-powered scams are becoming more sophisticated and challenging to detect. As the leading network in the UK, we are committed to providing our customers with advanced cyber security protection through innovative solutions like the enhanced Scam Guard service.”
