A mother of two has shared the shocking moment when her sister-in-law ruined her wedding dress by splashing it with black paint on her wedding day, leaving her bewildered about the motive behind the act.

Gemma Monk experienced this vengeful act during her wedding ceremony with Ken Monk at Oakwood House Register Office in Maidstone, witnessed by shocked guests. Antonia Eastwood, married to Gemma’s brother, abruptly left the scene after the paint incident, leaving Gemma in tears.

Despite the distressing situation, Gemma, aged 35, composed herself, cleaned up in a changing area, and borrowed a replacement dress to proceed with marrying her partner of over two decades.

Speaking to KentOnline, Gemma expressed her determination to go through with the wedding despite the disruption. She reflected on the incident, stating that she would have continued down the aisle even if it meant wearing paint-stained clothes.

Following the incident, Eastwood, now residing in Manchester, was prosecuted at Maidstone Crown Court for causing criminal damage, with costs estimated to exceed £5,000 for repairs and loss of revenue at Oakwood House.

The feud between the families escalated after accusations during Eastwood’s wedding to Ashley in 2023, leading to strained relationships despite a previous close bond between Ken and Ashley.

The Monks proceeded with their ceremony on May 24, 2024, after the paint attack, which forced temporary closure of the venue for repairs.

Subsequently, Gemma, a mental health care worker, faced challenges with depression and work due to the distressing incident. She expressed the emotional toll during a court statement, highlighting the impact on her well-being and daily life.

Furthermore, Gemma revealed that the ordeal occurred during a period of a cancer scare, which added to her emotional and physical strain. Despite overcoming the health scare, the damage caused by the incident affected her deeply.

The court sentenced Eastwood to a suspended jail term, community service, and a compensation order. Gemma expressed mixed feelings about the outcome but emphasized her focus on moving forward and reclaiming her life.

Gemma’s resilience and determination to rebuild after the traumatic event demonstrate her strength and courage in the face of adversity.
