A man identified as Shamar Elkins, a 31-year-old army veteran, is accused of fatally shooting eight children in Louisiana on Sunday morning. Prior to the tragic incident, Elkins had shared a happy photo of his daughter on social media. The shootings took place at three different locations in Shreveport, with victims ranging from 1 to 12 years old.
On his Facebook page, Elkins had posted pictures of himself with his children, including a recent Easter celebration at church. However, he also expressed struggles with mental health in a post requesting divine protection for his thoughts.
The violent episode unfolded around 6 a.m. in Shreveport, resulting in ten individuals being shot during a domestic dispute. Elkins attempted a carjacking before being fatally shot by police after a pursuit. The crime scene spanned multiple locations in the Cedar Grove area, leaving an unprecedented impact on the community.
Authorities confirmed that seven of the deceased children were Elkins’ own. Public figures, including Police Chief Wayne Smith and Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux, expressed shock and sorrow over the tragic event, urging prayers for the affected families and the broader community.
