Neighbors of Shamar Elkins, the suspect in the tragic incident involving the killing of eight children aged one to 12, recounted the moment they witnessed him fleeing the residence.

Authorities revealed that the Louisiana shooter, who targeted two homes early on Sunday, fatally shot seven of his own children, injured their mother, and also killed another child. This horrific event marks the deadliest mass shooting in the US in over two years.

According to Police Department spokesperson Chris Bordelon, Shamar Elkins allegedly shot the mother first, then proceeded to take the lives of the eight children. Ten individuals were shot in total, with two women surviving the dreadful attack. One of the women sustained critical injuries, including a gunshot wound to the head.

The tragic sequence of events transpired on Sunday morning when the assailant approached a residence in Shreveport, where the appalling massacre unfolded.

Following the shootings, Elkins fled to Harrison Street, approximately a quarter mile away, in a vehicle he carjacked. Police pursued him in a high-speed chase, leading to another location where he was ultimately shot and killed by law enforcement officers.

One resident, Liza Demming, who resides near the scene of the shootings, mentioned that her security camera captured footage of the suspect running away after hearing gunshots. She described the unsettling sight of him leaving the house along with the sound of gunfire.

Demming, who later observed the covered body of a child on a neighboring roof, expressed shock, noting that she did not know the suspect personally but had seen him with the children recently.

Pastor Marty T. Johnson Sr., of a local church that owned one of the homes involved in the tragedy, indicated that a staff member had rented the property to the affected family, although he had minimal interaction with them.

State Police detectives have been requested by the Shreveport police to investigate the incident. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry and US House Speaker Mike Johnson extended their condolences and commended law enforcement for their swift response to the heartbreaking situation.

The authorities emphasized that the shooting was believed to be a domestic-related matter. Louisiana State Police urged individuals with any relevant photos, videos, or information to cooperate with their investigation.
