A tragic incident unfolded in Shreveport, Louisiana, where a domestic disturbance led to the death of eight children in the deadliest shooting incident in the US in the past two years. The shooting, involving victims aged between one and 12 years old, resulted in a total of 10 people being shot across three different locations.

The suspected shooter, identified as Shamar Elkins, started the ordeal by attacking one location in Shreveport before fleeing to another site on Harrison Street, prompting a high-speed chase with the police. Elkins was eventually shot and killed by law enforcement officers at a third location.

Authorities revealed that Elkins, believed to be the father of some of the victims, carried out the shootings, with two women surviving the harrowing event. One of the women sustained life-threatening injuries, including a gunshot wound to the head.

Chris Bordelon, a spokesperson for the Shreveport police, mentioned that some of the children shot were related to the assailant. The community was left shocked by the extent of the tragedy, with officials requesting patience and prayers as they dealt with the multiple crime scenes.

Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith expressed disbelief at the horrific incident, calling it a tragic situation of unprecedented magnitude. The mayor of the city, Tom Arceneaux, described it as a terrible morning for the community.

Eyewitnesses like Liza Demming recounted seeing the suspect fleeing the scene and hearing gunshots, with one child’s covered body discovered on a rooftop. The police have enlisted the help of Louisiana State Police detectives to investigate the incident further.

This incident marks the deadliest mass shooting in the US since January 2024 and has left Governor Jeff Landry and his wife deeply saddened. Their thoughts are with the law enforcement officers and first responders working tirelessly at the scene to manage the aftermath of this devastating event.
