“Recall Alert: Phone Chargers Pose Deadly Risks”

Share

Hundreds of thousands of portable phone chargers have been swiftly recalled due to a series of alarming incidents, including one tragic fatality. Approximately 429,200 wireless power banks have been withdrawn from the market over concerns of potential overheating and fire outbreaks, posing severe risks of harm or even death. The products manufactured by Casely were first identified as problematic by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in April of the previous year. The CPSC had received multiple reports of lithium-ion batteries in these chargers overheating, swelling, or igniting while users were charging their devices, resulting in injuries. These incidents caused minor burns to at least six individuals and tragically led to the death of a 75-year-old woman in New Jersey. The woman sustained severe burns from an explosion when the charger ignited while on her lap in August 2024, ultimately resulting in her passing due to her injuries. In a separate harrowing incident in February of the current year, a woman experienced a similar charger malfunction on a plane, causing burns.

These hazardous chargers are just one of numerous products being urgently recalled amid safety concerns. The CPSC recently issued a comprehensive recall announcement on Thursday, citing serious and potentially life-threatening risks such as choking hazards, battery ingestion, electric shock, fire, and severe burn dangers.

In addition to the chargers, Expandable Magic Pocket Staffs marketed to aspiring magicians have also been recalled after reports of unexpected deployments causing over 160 injuries, including eye injuries, cuts, and temporary vision loss. Parents are being cautioned about various toy recalls, including children’s activity cubes and Montessori-style play sets that pose a choking hazard. Additionally, toys containing button batteries, such as finger lights and toy laser products, are flagged as potentially life-threatening if ingested due to the risk of severe internal burns. Other household items, like certain electric pressure washers sold on Amazon, have been recalled due to critical electrical faults that could lead to electric shock or electrocution risks.

Furthermore, tea kettles under the Arch Studio brand sold at Macy’s outlets and online during a specific period have been recalled due to reports of handles detaching when heated, increasing the risk of severe burns. Fisher & Paykel issued a recall for freestanding professional gas ovens sold nationwide within a certain timeframe due to burn risks. Adult portable bed rails, sold on Amazon over a specific period, were recalled due to entrapment and asphyxiation hazards, and for non-compliance with safety standards. Portable generators by Generac Power Systems and computer power supplies from Apex Gaming PCs have also been recalled over fire and shock hazards respectively. Consumers are advised to discontinue using any affected products immediately and refer to official recall notices for guidance.
