Three security personnel at a nightclub in downtown Winnipeg are facing assault charges following an incident that left a Winnipeg Sea Bears player with serious injuries earlier this month, according to police reports. Teddy Allen was reportedly assaulted at the club in the early hours of August 3, leading to his hospitalization, as confirmed by the Canadian Elite Basketball League team. The three individuals, aged 35, 37, and 58, who were employed at the establishment, were apprehended on Wednesday and charged with assault causing bodily harm. They have since been released on undertakings.
Although the specific nightclub was not disclosed by the authorities, it was mentioned to be located on Main Street, situated between Portage and William avenues. Allen, who has undergone medical examinations and received a diagnosis, is currently recuperating at home, as stated in a team-released written statement on Thursday.
In response to the incident, Allen expressed that such an assault “should never have happened nor should it happen to anyone for any reason.” He further added, “The thing about my life is that when I’ve been knocked down, I get back up, which is exactly what I’m going to do now.”
