Swiss authorities announced the apprehension of a 43-year-old individual in connection with a fatal shooting incident at a rave in Aarau over the weekend. During the early hours of Sunday, a 22-year-old Italian woman lost her life, and five others sustained injuries at the gathering hosted at a sheltered horse racing venue. Following an extensive operation, law enforcement arrested the Swiss suspect just before 1 a.m. on Monday on suspicion of perpetrating the attack.

Authorities in the canton of Aargau stated that ongoing investigations are focusing on determining the precise circumstances, background, and potential motives behind the incident, with initial beliefs pointing towards a single perpetrator. While no specific details were provided, police mentioned that potential motives being explored include a mass shooting, acts of terrorism, or other criminal intentions.

Police revealed that cartridges recovered at the scene indicated the presence of two different bullet calibers, suggesting the use of a handgun and a larger weapon, possibly an assault rifle. Although resembling ammunition used in the Russian AK-74 assault rifle, as reported by the Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger, law enforcement officials refrained from confirming this detail. The victim of the tragedy, identified as Maria Spinelli by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, was the 22-year-old Italian who tragically lost her life in the incident.
