“Avalanche traps multiple skiers in Sweden: Urgent rescue mission underway”

Multiple individuals are currently trapped in an avalanche at a well-known ski resort, leading to an urgent search and rescue mission. The avalanche occurred in Sweden’s Kiruna municipality near RiksgrÀnsen, reportedly engulfing ten people beneath the snow. Emergency responders, including seven fire trucks and two ambulances, have been deployed to the area.

Authorities were notified at 1:45 pm local time, with rescuers taking 45 minutes to reach the mountain. Prior to their arrival, five individuals were rescued by fellow mountain climbers. The rescued individuals have been transported to a hospital for evaluation, while rescue teams continue to search for any remaining trapped individuals. There are concerns that as many as ten people may still be missing, according to line operator Engla Hansson.

In response to the situation, Norwegian authorities have been contacted for additional personnel and a rescue helicopter. The incident is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
