Boxing icon Ricky Hatton’s official cause of death has been confirmed following his tragic passing at his residence in Manchester. The confirmation was made during an inquest at Stockport Coroners Court, attended by grieving family members including his father, son, brother, and the mother of his daughters, along with his manager and close friend.

During the proceedings, emotional statements were shared, with Hatton’s mother recalling their last meeting where she noticed sadness in his eyes and described his hug as nearly breaking her ribs. The family also highlighted a decline in Hatton’s short-term memory, mentioning instances of forgotten conversations leading up to his demise.

The senior coroner delivered a narrative verdict, citing hanging as the medical cause of Hatton’s death. However, it was noted that there was no clear intention of suicide, as Hatton was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time and had not left a note. The presence of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), linked to repetitive head injuries, was also mentioned.

Discovering Hatton in his home’s games room, his manager found the body cold, with signs of alcohol consumption exceeding the legal limit, as well as traces of cocaine and cannabis in his system. The coroner emphasized the deep impact of Hatton’s loss on his family, highlighting his strong bond with loved ones despite his successful boxing career.

Described as a devoted family man with significant future plans, Hatton’s untimely death has left a lasting void for his children and parents, reflecting a tragedy no family should endure. The coroner expressed regret at the loss suffered by Hatton’s father and wife, acknowledging the pain of burying a child. Despite the challenges, Hatton’s positive outlook and eagerness for future endeavors were recognized, underscoring his enduring love for his family.
