Upon landing in a foreign country, travelers are eager to swiftly navigate through the airport processes and reach their final destination. For British visitors to the UK, a new challenge has emerged in the form of the European Entry/Exit System (EES), now fully operational in EU countries as of April 12. While Greece has exempted British travelers from this system during the busy summer months, it remains uncertain if other EU nations will follow suit.
Having previously experienced the EES during a trip to France, I approached my arrival at Barcelona’s El Prat Airport in Spain with some apprehension. Despite being familiar with the system, I still encountered delays and queues upon disembarking the aircraft. The process involved passport scans and verification, leading to some passengers requiring assistance while others breezed through effortlessly.
From the end of the passport control queue to stepping out into the Spanish sunshine, my total wait time was just under 25 minutes. Although the airport was bustling, the operational efficiency of the staff ensured a relatively smooth experience. Barcelona Airport, handling millions of passengers annually, has optimized its procedures to accommodate the influx of travelers, making the overall process manageable despite occasional delays.
With a large volume of passengers passing through the airport each year, the efficiency of the staff and streamlined procedures play a crucial role in ensuring a seamless travel experience for visitors.
