“BT Unveils Smart Hub 3: Enhanced Security & Connectivity”

Share

BT introduces a new method for internet access that goes beyond mere connectivity. The company is set to launch its latest Smart Hub 3 Wi-Fi router in households across the UK, boasting enhanced connectivity and added security features.

This advanced technology embedded in the router can automatically detect risky websites, alerting users to potential malware or other online threats before any harm is done. Additionally, it has the capability to identify unauthorized attempts by hackers to breach smart home devices like internet-connected cameras, preemptively blocking suspicious activities.

Users will have access to monitoring potential threats through the Hub Threat Protect feature within the MyBT app. These enhancements are aimed at bolstering online security for households and proactively safeguarding against cyberattacks.

In addition to security features, the Smart Hub 3 prioritizes performance. With support for Complete Wi-Fi Plus, it ensures wider signal coverage throughout homes, minimizing dead zones in areas with weaker connectivity.

As revealed through images on Mirror Online, the Smart Hub 3 boasts a sleek, minimalist design featuring a small BT logo at its center.

A notable detail is that this router is compatible with Wi-Fi 6 technology rather than the newer Wi-Fi 7 standard present in some rival devices, including those from EE.

While Wi-Fi 7 offers enhanced speeds, lower latency, and improved reliability, many current devices do not yet support this standard, making Wi-Fi 6 more than sufficient for most households and a significant upgrade from older Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 4 equipment.

BT’s Smart Hub 3 will be accessible to new customers and possibly to some existing users eligible for an upgrade.

Wondering about the disparity between Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7?

Wi-Fi 6 brought improvements in wireless performance by enhancing speed, efficiency, and capacity compared to its predecessors, Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 4.

Wi-Fi 7 elevates this further by introducing wider 320 MHz channels, reduced latency, and even higher speeds, making it particularly beneficial for gaming, 8K streaming, and advanced smart home setups.

For most users today, Wi-Fi 6 remains an excellent choice, while Wi-Fi 7 presents a more future-proof solution.
