British darts prodigy, Luke Littler, recently shared that he extended an invitation to Prince William for the upcoming PDC World Championship at Alexandra Palace. The 19-year-old met the Duke of Cambridge at Windsor Castle where he was awarded his MBE.
During their conversation, Littler mentioned that Prince William expressed interest in attending a night at Ally Pally, remarking that it seemed like a fun outing. The darts champion then cordially invited the royal to the championship.
Reflecting on their interaction, Littler mentioned, “Prince William mentioned he has been following the journey and we discussed the rising popularity of darts. While I didn’t formally invite him, if he requires tickets, I am confident that either myself or the PDC can accommodate.”
Prince William, known for his passion for football, celebrated Aston Villa’s victory in the Europa League where they triumphed over Freiburg 3-0. He congratulated the team on social media and commended their success after a long wait for European silverware.
Villa defender, Matty Cash, shared that Prince William joined the team in celebrating the victory, highlighting his unwavering support for the club. Littler, thrilled by the encounter, described conversing with the royal as an extraordinary experience.
Receiving his MBE alongside notable figures like actress Cynthia Erivo and comedian Matt Lucas, Littler expressed his astonishment at the prestigious event at Windsor Castle. He emphasized the significance of his achievements in the sport and the overwhelming positive reception he has received.
Littler’s focus now shifts back to the dartboard as he aims for a second Premier League Darts title. His upcoming semi-final match against Gerwyn Price will determine his path to potentially facing Luke Humphries or Jonny Clayton in the final.
Anticipating the competition ahead, Littler stated, “Securing a spot in the final for the third time would be satisfying, but my primary focus is on overcoming Gezzy first. While some may anticipate a Luke versus Luke final, consistency in reaching finals is a testament to our performance.”
