Police have cordoned off a popular beauty spot in the UK following the discovery of a deceased individual. The body, believed to be that of a man, was found near Marple Aqueduct in Stockport. Despite not yet being formally identified, authorities have notified the man’s next of kin.
A witness observed a police helicopter hovering above the aqueduct area, which was sealed off this morning. Pictures show officers congregating near a tree-lined section beside several parked police vehicles. Greater Manchester Police has confirmed that the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
The Marple Aqueduct, constructed in the late 1700s to transport the lower level of the Peak Forest Canal over the River Goyt, is a Grade II listed structure. This aqueduct features a 16-lock flight, known as one of the steepest in the country.
