A former Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) is facing charges related to drug offenses involving Class A and Class B substances.

Crispin Blunt, who represented Reigate in Parliament from 1997 to 2024, is scheduled to attend court next week to respond to four charges. The Crown Prosecution Service disclosed that his arrest in 2023 was linked to a separate issue.

Mr. Blunt, who held a junior ministerial position during David Cameron’s tenure and chaired the Foreign Affairs Select Committee, is accused of possessing one Class A drug and three Class B substances.

The Head of the Crown Prosecution Service’s Special Crime Division, Malcolm McHaffie, announced the decision to charge Crispin Blunt, aged 65, with four drug offenses, involving a Class A controlled drug and three Class B controlled drugs.

McHaffie stated, “The charges stem from police visiting Mr. Blunt’s residence in Horley on October 25, 2023, in connection with an unrelated matter. Our team of prosecutors has diligently gathered evidence to support bringing this case to court, deeming it necessary in the public interest to pursue legal action.”

He added, “We have collaborated extensively with Surrey Police throughout their investigative process. It is crucial to respect the active criminal proceedings against the defendant and uphold his right to a fair trial. Any reporting or sharing of information online that could potentially bias the proceedings should be avoided.”

Mr. Blunt is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on March 25. The alleged Class A substance is methylamphetamine, while the Class B substances are purported to be GBL, cannabis, and amphetamine.
