Miyu Yamashita, a 25-year-old golfer from Japan, achieved victory in the CPKC Women’s Open held in Edmonton, Canada. This win marked her fourth triumph on the LPGA Tour and her second victory this year. Yamashita displayed exceptional skill at the Royal Mayfair Golf Club, finishing with a remarkable 4-under-par 66 in the final round, ultimately securing the win at 23 under in the $2.75-million US tournament.
Maintaining a six-stroke lead after three rounds, Yamashita outperformed her compatriot, Yuri Yoshida, who finished as the runner-up at 14 under. Expressing her joy at winning in Canada, Yamashita thanked her supporters and emphasized the enjoyment she experienced throughout the tournament week.
Standing at four-foot-11, Yamashita previously claimed victories at the Meijer LPGA Classic, Women’s British Open, and Maybank Championship in 2025, earning her the title of rookie of the year. She now holds the distinction as the fastest Japanese player to reach four LPGA wins, matching the lowest all-time four-day score of 257 in Edmonton.
Anna Huang of Vancouver excelled as the top Canadian, finishing in a tie for fourth with a 5-under 65. Calgary’s Aphrodite Deng secured a tie for seventh with a 69, also earning recognition as the low amateur for the second consecutive year. Notably, two-time winner Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont., concluded in a tie for 13th at 7 under.
Huang, a 17-year-old golfer, celebrated her fourth European Tour win in August and marked the youngest player to achieve this feat. Expressing her gratitude for the opportunity to compete at home, Huang reflected on the valuable experience gained during the tournament.
Both Huang and Deng’s top-10 finishes have granted them entry into the upcoming LPGA’s FM Championship at TPC Boston in Norton, Mass. World No. 1 Nelly Korda finished at 1 under for the tournament, while Henderson faced challenges with the rough and missed birdie opportunities over the four days.
Reflecting on her performance, Henderson acknowledged her strong ball striking but expressed the need to improve putting. Amateur golfers Michelle Xing, Savannah Grewal, Clairey Lin, and Maude-Aimee Leblanc also showcased their skills at the event. Looking ahead, the 2027 CPKC Women’s Open is set to take place at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club in Gatineau, Que.
