“Late April Snow and Blizzards Forecasted for UK”

Share

Weather maps are suggesting a late burst of wintry conditions that could bring snow to parts of the UK later this month, despite warmer spring temperatures in other areas. Forecast charts are indicating the possibility of brief blizzard-like conditions developing around Tuesday, April 22, and persisting for several days, with the most severe weather expected in northern and higher-altitude regions.

According to WXCharts, regions at higher risk of snow and blizzard conditions include parts of northern England and Scotland. These areas might experience snow showers accompanied by strong winds, especially over exposed terrain, leading to temporary blizzard-like conditions.

Temperatures in the affected regions are expected to drop significantly, with daytime highs ranging between 2C and 6C in the north during the coldest period. Overnight temperatures could fall to 0C or below, increasing the risk of frost and icy surfaces.

In contrast, conditions in southern regions will remain much milder, with temperatures reaching 12C to 18C, particularly in southern and western England. The weather maps illustrate a clear division, with colder air moving into the North while the South stays warmer and more stable.

This weather pattern is influenced by Atlantic weather systems approaching from the West, with high pressure in the North-east acting as a barrier. The Met Office forecasts a dry start from April 19 to April 28 for many regions, with sunny spells and warm sunshine expected. Moving into the following week, there may be attempts by Atlantic lows to bring rain, but high pressure to the North-east is likely to prevent significant incursions.

While brief wintry conditions are expected in the north, the overall forecast for April remains uncertain, with sunny intervals, cooler coastal temperatures, and intermittent unsettled periods anticipated as the month progresses.
