A man aged 52 was found deceased in the sea near a popular beach after leaving notes for his family. Matthew Whale, a car sales manager from Killay, Swansea, was discovered in the water off one of Wales’ well-visited beaches.

Rescue teams located him on March 7 with minor injuries, a day after his family reported him missing. Swansea Coroners’ Court revealed that Mr. Whale had left notes at home, prompting his family to contact South Wales Police, leading to an extensive search involving Mountain Rescue and HM Coastguard.

His car was found in the Rhossili car park, and CCTV footage captured him walking towards Worms Head before volunteers spotted him in the sea. Despite minor injuries and no apparent signs of significant trauma, Mr. Whale was taken to the hospital, and authorities confirmed no foul play was suspected.

The Coroner, Aled Griffiths, expressed concerns about the nature of Mr. Whale’s death and scheduled a full inquest for August 25, offering condolences to the family during the brief hearing.
