“Multiple Collisions on M1 Cause Major Delays”

Share

Police presence on a major UK motorway has resulted in closures. The M1 was initially shut down in both directions in Derbyshire this morning due to a police incident at J29. However, all lanes at that location are now open, though motorists should anticipate delays as traffic normalizes.

Additionally, a separate incident has forced the closure of the M1 southbound between J21a and J21 in Leicestershire due to a multi-vehicle collision. Emergency services are on-site, causing a four-mile congestion on approach. One lane remains closed between J21a and J21 following an earlier collision.

Motorists traveling on the M1 are experiencing disruptions due to multiple collisions following the Midlands police incident. Long delays are reported with queues extending four miles on the southbound carriageway between J21 and J21a, where two lanes are closed.

National Highways advises of 50-minute delays for motorists traveling south on the M1 between junctions J22 and J21. Traffic England indicates prolonged delays expected to clear around 1:15 pm due to a road traffic collision.

The M1 in Leicestershire has partially closed between J21 and J21a due to a serious collision, leading to the closure of two southbound lanes following a separate crash between J21 and J21A.

National Highways confirms the full reopening of the M1 but cautions motorists to expect delays as traffic flow returns to normal. Vehicles involved in the earlier police-led incident on the M1 north near Chesterfield have been recovered, allowing for the reopening of the northbound lanes.

Motorists are advised to consider re-routing or delaying their journeys as a carriageway closure persists on the M1. National Highways provides resources for up-to-date information and support.

The M1 northbound is closed between the Chesterfield and Barlborough exits due to a police-led incident. National Highways provides details on the closures and the ongoing response by Derbyshire Police.

A diversion route is available for affected drivers following the closure of the M1, indicated by the hollow triangle diversion symbol.
