Owners of Fire TV Sticks are accustomed to receiving warnings regarding blocked content, particularly illegal sports and movie streams. However, a new alert has emerged, unrelated to piracy or unauthorized viewing.
Millions of users with older Fire TV devices are now facing an issue reported by the vigilant team at AFTV News. These Amazon streaming gadgets, incapable of keeping up with the latest updates, are no longer able to access HBO Max content.
HBO Max, a recently launched streaming service in the UK, offers a diverse library of shows and movies at an affordable monthly rate, starting from £4.99. The platform includes a variety of content such as HBO originals, Warner Bros. films, DC titles, and Discovery reality shows. Notable series like Euphoria, House of the Dragon, Game of Thrones, and Friends are part of its lineup, along with the complete Harry Potter collection.
It has been confirmed that Fire TV devices running Fire OS 5 or older are no longer supported, preventing users with these outdated systems from streaming HBO Max. HBO specifies that its service is compatible with various devices, including phones, tablets, computers, smart TVs, and streaming players, but it only supports Amazon Fire TV devices running Fire OS 6 or later.
One of the impacted models is the widely utilized second-generation Fire TV Stick, a former top-selling streaming device for Amazon. Unlike smartphones or computers, Fire TV Sticks do not receive major operating system updates, staying locked to their original OS version. Consequently, users cannot upgrade from Fire OS 5 to a newer iteration.
For individuals with older Fire TV Sticks, upgrading to a newer device is now the sole option for continuing to access HBO Max.
To determine the operating system on your Fire TV Stick, navigate to Settings > My Fire TV > About and check the Software Version. If it indicates Fire OS 5 or earlier, access to HBO Max will be restricted.
