“Parents Jailed for Neglect in Daughter’s Tragic Death”

The parents of a vulnerable woman have been sentenced to prison for their role in allowing their daughter to perish in a cruel manner. Steffie Davies, who weighed a mere five stone and had lice in her hair, was discovered by paramedics at the scene. Her mother and father, Bernita and Alan Davies, both aged 60, had previously pleaded guilty to causing or permitting the death of a vulnerable adult.

Steffie, aged 32, passed away on May 26, 2023, after enduring extreme neglect and suffering immense pain due to the indifference and neglect of her parents. The judge sentenced the Davieses to eight years, emphasizing that Steffie had never experienced love or affection and was subjected to verbal abuse and neglect.

During the two-day hearing at Mold Crown Court, it was revealed that Steffie was found in a deplorable state with dirty, matted hair, suspected fungal infections on her skin, and being almost skeletal. Photos of her injuries were deemed too distressing to be presented in court.

Neighbors described Bernita Davies as the “mother from hell” due to her treatment of her children. Steffie’s father, Alan Davies, informed paramedics that his daughter had been bedridden for a year before her demise. Despite her deteriorating condition, the Davieses continued with their lives, showing no concern for Steffie’s well-being.

Mrs. Justice Stacey highlighted the lack of remorse from the Davieses, pointing out their neglect and lack of care towards their daughter. Bernita Davies contacted emergency services on the day of Steffie’s death, claiming to have checked on her the day before. However, it was revealed that Steffie had likely been deceased for several days before being discovered.

Steffie’s sister expressed regret over the lost potential of her sister, stating that with proper support, Steffie could have achieved more in life. The Davieses, who initially faced charges of gross negligence manslaughter, admitted to causing or allowing their daughter’s death.

Detective Superintendent Sarah-Jayne Williams expressed disbelief at the level of neglect that led to Steffie’s tragic demise. A spokesperson for Wrexham Council announced plans to review the case in collaboration with the North Wales Safeguarding Board.
