Police have provided an important update following reports of a woman allegedly being raped by a group of men outside a church in Epsom, leading to demonstrations in the area. Surrey Police initially stated that a woman in her twenties was reportedly followed from Labyrinth Epsom nightclub and assaulted outside Epsom Methodist Church in the early hours of Saturday.

In a recent update issued by the authorities, detectives mentioned that they have not discovered any evidence supporting the reported offense or indicating the involvement of asylum seekers or immigrants. Police emphasized that details about the alleged incident and potential suspects remain scarce.

Following protests demanding more information about the suspects, law enforcement officers gathered on Epsom High Street, where protesters reportedly threw objects at them. Police noted that the demonstrators obstructed the road, causing disruptions for drivers, and issued a warning against any disorderly behavior.

Assistant Chief Constable for Local Policing Sarah Grahame, in the latest update from Surrey Police, acknowledged the public’s concerns and frustration over the limited information shared by the police regarding the reported rape incident. Grahame mentioned that extensive investigations, including reviewing CCTV footage, interviewing witnesses, conducting forensic examinations, and house-to-house inquiries, have been ongoing to verify the events surrounding the incident.

The authorities clarified that to date, no evidence confirming the reported offense has been found, and the investigation continues. They addressed speculations about suspect descriptions, particularly regarding ethnicity, stating that no detailed descriptions have been released due to the lack of information on the incident and potential suspects. Police explicitly stated that there is no evidence linking asylum seekers or immigrants to the incident.

Individuals with relevant information or any footage from CCTV, dashcams, or helmet cameras are urged to contact the police online or through 101, quoting reference PR/45260041426. Surrey Police announced an increased police presence in Epsom over the weekend.
