Tourists at the Vatican this week have criticized US President Donald Trump for his recent comments about Pope Leo. Trump took to social media to label the Pope as “weak” and under the influence of the “radical left” after Pope Leo condemned Trump’s actions towards Iran.
Despite Pope Leo being on a trip to Africa, tourists continue to visit the Vatican and share their thoughts on the matter. Visitors like Joerg Soler from Switzerland expressed disappointment, stating that a Pope should advocate for peace globally.
French tourist Mariella Acciaioli condemned Trump’s behavior as excessive, calling for unity against such actions. American tourist Paul Sarauskas found Trump’s remarks absurd and inappropriate, emphasizing the need for leaders to promote peace instead of division.
Pope Leo responded to Trump’s criticism, asserting that the Vatican’s mission for peace aligns with Gospel teachings and dismissing any fear of the Trump administration. Journalists and theologians have weighed in, with Italian journalist Massimo Franco emphasizing the Pope’s duty to serve a broader community and Rev. Antonio Spadaro highlighting the moral authority of the church.
Spadaro suggested that Trump’s attacks on the Pope indicate his powerlessness against moral influence. He emphasized the church’s role in evaluating power through ethical standards beyond manipulation.
