Noelia Castillo Ramos has passed away through euthanasia following a battle with mental health challenges and paralysis resulting from a traumatic gang rape incident.
The 25-year-old from Barcelona succumbed to the euthanasia procedure after receiving approval for the process.
Despite her father’s efforts, backed by the Christian Lawyers group, to prevent the euthanasia, the procedure was carried out as confirmed by the organization.
The administration of three injections led to deep sedation, culminating in cardiac arrest for Noelia.
Her mother, Yolanda Ramos, spent her final moments with her at Sant Camil Hospital before the procedure intended to ensure a peaceful passing.
Noelia’s family members, including her father, siblings, and grandmother, were present at the hospital to be with her before she passed away.
Noelia had endured severe mental health issues and physical disabilities after a gang rape incident in 2022, resulting in irreversible spinal injuries.
Despite her father’s objections, the Catalan Guarantee and Evaluation Commission approved Noelia’s plea for euthanasia.
Assisted dying has been legal in Spain since 2021, providing individuals like Noelia with the option to end their suffering.
Noelia had expressed her desire to be alone during her final moments, highlighting her wish for a peaceful passing.
