A nature-friendly vacation spot near Morpeth in Northumberland clinched the top spot as the best in the region at the recent Destination North East England Tourism Awards held on March 19.
Tranwell Farm Holidays emerged victorious in the Camping, Glamping, and Holiday Park of the Year category during the 24th edition of the annual ceremony. Nestled on a farm tended by the same family for over six decades, the site has been offering a range of distinctive glamping experiences since 2022.
Accommodation choices include grass pitches amidst picturesque meadows, space for personal caravans or campervans, a cozy shepherd’s hut for two, a comfortable camping pod, and two woodland lodges enveloped by trees, complete with a private log-fired hot tub.
Visitors can partake in unique encounters during their stay at the farm, such as meeting the park’s rare breed lambs, the chance to bottle-feed a lamb, or witness a birth. Situated in an area with designated ‘dark sky,’ the location provides an excellent setting for stargazing.
For those interested in stargazing, guests can rent a stargazing kit comprising binoculars, hot water bottles, and a rug, and even opt to hire a telescope to delve into the mysteries of the cosmos from Earth.
Morpeth, a historic market town less than a ten-minute drive away, features the River Wansbeck running through its heart. The town boasts a traditional high street with a blend of chain and independent stores, along with the indoor Sanderson Arcade housing upscale boutiques.
A leisurely stroll along the riverfront Carlisle Park reveals historic landmarks like Morpeth Court, once a court and gaol, now transformed into an antiques center, café, and holiday apartments.
