President Trump has been critical of the NATO alliance during the Iran conflict, accusing NATO of inaction. However, the UK has emphasized its support for defending allies from Iranian aggression, as highlighted by Mark Rutte, the NATO secretary general, praising the UK and Keir Starmer’s efforts in securing allies’ support in reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

In response to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s questioning of NATO’s relevance, Mr. Pollard reiterated the importance of US involvement in NATO and the need for continued collaboration. The UK Government is set to announce a new missile contract to counter Iranian threats, with Royal Navy minehunters already deployed to assist in reopening the vital shipping channel.
