“Wheelchair User Alleges Discrimination at Club Tropicana”

A woman using a wheelchair has criticized a well-known nightclub, alleging that the manager expelled her due to concerns about fire safety. Maddie Haining, 18, claimed she was asked to leave Club Tropicana on Manchester’s bustling Canal Street in the early hours of Saturday, an incident she described as degrading.

In a video posted on Instagram by the influencer under the handle maddieiswheelycool, she recounted being approached by two staff members. While one was polite, Maddie described the manager as unpleasant and disrespectful.

According to Maddie, the manager threatened to fine her for violating fire regulations and insisted that she leave. In response, she cited the Equality Act 2010, which prohibits denying access to facilities based on wheelchair use.

Despite door staff having no initial issues with Maddie’s wheelchair when she entered the establishment with friends at 2 am, a disagreement ensued later. Maddie recalled how security initially assisted her inside, but the manager abruptly ordered her to leave, citing safety concerns without providing clear reasons.

After engaging with the bar’s operating company directors, Maddie learned that they were conducting an internal investigation into the incident involving the manager. The Mirror approached the bar owners for comment, but they declined, stating they were internally investigating the matter and refrained from further comments.
