Rory McIlroy is currently enjoying a brief respite at his newly acquired mansion in the UK before heading to compete in the US Open. The world’s second-ranked golfer recently participated in the Memorial Tournament in Ohio, finishing in a tie for 12th place.
Scoring four under par at the tournament, the 37-year-old is preparing for the upcoming major event. However, McIlroy will not be participating in the Canadian Open this week as he has opted to return to England.
After a 3,650-mile journey from Dublin, Ohio to Wentworth, McIlroy is settling into his new residence in Surrey. He plans to spend six days at his mansion before embarking on another approximately 3,500-mile trip to Southampton, New York, for the US Open at Shinnecock Hills.
By choosing to spend time at his family home, McIlroy will miss out on the Canadian Open, which offers a substantial prize pot of £7.3 million, with the winner set to receive £1.3 million.
“I had a couple of weeks off, and we settled into our London house for the summer. It was nice to be there for the last 10 days,” McIlroy mentioned before the Memorial Tournament.
The golfer, who acquired the £9 million home in 2023, has been renovating the property with his wife Erica Stoll. The six-bedroom mansion, initially one of the area’s finest homes, has been expanded and revamped as the couple and their daughter Poppy move from Florida.
Previously residing in a luxurious £16.5 million mansion in Jupiter, Florida, purchased from golf legend Ernie Els in 2017, McIlroy and Stoll have now joined a prestigious community that includes notable figures such as Elton John and Cliff Richard. Notably, their new neighbor, the Sultan of Brunei, possesses a staggering net worth of £22.3 billion.
Reflecting on his performance at the Memorial Tournament, McIlroy acknowledged challenges with driver consistency throughout the season but remains optimistic about his prospects at the upcoming US Open.
Now focusing on clinching a second major title of the season at Shinnecock Hills following his Masters triumph in April, McIlroy expressed his commitment to continual improvement.
