The UK Chief Rabbi has expressed concern over a surge in attacks on the Jewish community, particularly after a recent arson incident at a London synagogue. Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis condemned the cowardly attack at Kenton United Synagogue in Harrow, which caused minor smoke damage but no injuries. This incident adds to a series of arson and attempted arson incidents targeting Jewish sites and property in the past month, prompting a counter-terror police investigation.

In a social media post, Sir Ephraim highlighted the escalation of violence, referencing three recent attacks on Jewish sites in London. Authorities are also looking into other recent attacks on a Persian language media organization and ambulances linked to the Jewish community in North London. The Chief Rabbi emphasized the urgent need to address the growing threat to the Jewish community in the UK before any loss of life occurs.

Acknowledging the severity of the situation, Prime Minister Keir Starmer denounced the attack as abhorrent and vowed not to tolerate such actions. The Metropolitan Police reported the attack at Kenton United Synagogue occurred around midnight, causing damage to a window. At present, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Vicki Evans of the Metropolitan Police revealed ongoing investigations into attacks on Jewish and Israeli businesses. The organization Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya has claimed responsibility for some of these attacks, with further scrutiny into the group underway. DAC Evans warned against any activities seeking to intimidate or harm communities, stressing that such actions will not sow division or hatred.

As investigations continue, a significant police presence remains at the scene, with forensic officers and plainclothes personnel conducting thorough examinations. The authorities remain vigilant against potential threats posed by hostile activities, particularly in light of evolving conflicts in the Middle East. Concerns have been raised regarding possible links between the group behind the attacks and Iran, prompting continued scrutiny as the investigation progresses.
