A honeymooning tourist in the Maldives is in critical condition after a shark attack. The victim, identified as Borja, a Spanish gynaecologist, underwent leg amputation due to severe blood loss. Borja and his wife, Ana, had recently married before embarking on their first holiday together in the Maldives.
The incident occurred near Kooddoo, an island in Gaafu Alif Atoll, known for shark activity. The victim, part of a group near a fish processing plant, was swiftly transported to hospitals in Male for intensive care. Reports suggest that the sharks may have been agitated due to lack of fish waste disposal, potentially triggering the attack.
An official complaint has been filed against the excursion organizer for negligence. Ana’s relatives have rushed to the Maldives to support her during this challenging time. The victim’s condition remains critical, with efforts being made to stabilize him in intensive care.
Kooddoo, home to the Mercure Maldives Kooddoo Resort, is a renowned honeymoon spot.
