A man, Jordan Herring, 22, was sentenced after pushing his 18-year-old partner, Bobbie Goodman, out of a tower block window in Solihull, West Midlands, in November 2022. The judge criticized Herring for lacking remorse over the incident that caused severe injuries to Ms. Goodman. The altercation escalated following a dispute fueled by cannabis and unfounded accusations of infidelity. CCTV footage captured the moment Ms. Goodman was pushed out of the flat, landing on a grassy area, narrowly avoiding a concrete path.
Emergency services were delayed in responding to Ms. Goodman, who suffered a collapsed lung and fractures. Herring was found guilty of unlawful wounding but acquitted of more serious charges of attempted murder and inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent. He received a five-year custodial sentence with an additional one-year license.
Herring was also convicted of coercive behavior towards Ms. Goodman, isolating her from her family and subjecting her to physical assault. Despite becoming a father, Herring displayed a lack of remorse during sentencing, drawing criticism from Judge Simon Drew for his behavior post-incident. The judge highlighted Herring’s use of the tower block as a dangerous weapon and his ongoing drug use in prison, leading to an extended sentence due to his assessed risk of serious harm in the community.
Previously, Herring had faced charges for stabbing someone outside a pub at the age of 16. His relationship with Ms. Goodman quickly deteriorated into controlling behavior and violence, culminating in the tragic incident. Ms. Goodman, in a poignant statement, expressed gratitude for surviving the ordeal and vowed never to tolerate such abuse again, acknowledging the detrimental impact on her life and family relationships.
