Authorities have issued a warning to the public advising against approaching a prisoner who escaped custody almost three months ago. Darnell Smith, 27, is being sought by law enforcement since he fled HMP Springhill near Grendon Underwood, Buckinghamshire. Smith is approximately 5ft 8in tall, of medium build, and was last seen dressed in all black when he escaped on January 28.

Thames Valley Police disclosed that Smith has connections to Croydon, south London, Plumstead in Surrey, and other areas in Surrey and Sussex. He is currently on the run, and officials have cautioned against any direct contact with him. In case of any sightings, individuals are urged to contact 999 immediately. Information on his whereabouts can also be shared by calling 101 or online, referencing number 43260045393. Thames Valley Police has made a public appeal for details on their Facebook page, with the post garnering significant attention.

This incident follows the escape of Daniel Boakye, 21, who broke free from custody at Lewisham Hospital in southeast London after evading security in February. Boakye was apprehended in Thamesmead, southeast London and returned to HMP Feltham. However, he managed to escape once more, prompting authorities to issue a renewed warning against approaching him. Boakye, facing deportation to Ghana, had been sentenced to six years and five months in July 2023 for several knifepoint cryptocurrency robberies totaling £115,000, along with three accomplices.
