Switzerland’s Maison Cailler to Expand into Sensory Chocolate Theme Park

Share

Chocolate lovers with a penchant for sweet treats may soon have a new must-see destination on their travel list. Switzerland, renowned for its chocolate delights, hosts Maison Cailler in Broc, Gruyère, a historic chocolate factory dating back to the late 19th century. This iconic factory currently offers tours, a museum showcasing the history of Cailler, and chocolate-making workshops where visitors can craft their own delectable treats such as truffles.

Exciting plans are underway to enhance the current attraction, expanding its size from 2,000 m² to nearly 30,000 m². The envisioned expansion aims to create a captivating “sensory experience” park, inviting guests on an immersive journey through the world of cocoa. With around 400,000 annual visitors already flocking to Maison Cailler, the proposed enhancements could potentially double this figure in the initial phase.

The planned developments include a cable car to transport visitors from the parking area to the factory, and a ‘flying theatre’ offering breathtaking views of the Swiss landscape. Additionally, a vast cocoa greenhouse will provide insights into the cultivation and harvesting of chocolate. To cater to enthusiasts wanting an extended experience, a new hotel is in the works, allowing guests to indulge their sweet tooth overnight. If all goes according to plan, the initial phase of these enhancements is set to be unveiled by 2030.

For those keen on visiting Maison Cailler, convenient train connections from Montreux are available, offering a themed train ride amidst picturesque Swiss scenery. Travelers from the UK typically opt for a 90-minute flight to Geneva, serviced by easyJet, TUI, and British Airways. Beyond the chocolate factory, the charming town of Broc offers more to explore, from the snow-covered Alps in winter to the lush greenery of summer. Visitors can wander the enchanting Château de Gruyères or venture to La Maison du Gruyère to witness the making of the renowned local cheese.

Whether you’re a chocolate connoisseur or a travel enthusiast, Maison Cailler and its upcoming enhancements promise an unforgettable experience for all ages.
