A suspect will face trial for the 2017 killing of a 21-year-old woman. The accused has been formally charged with murder in connection to the death of Hayley McClenahan-Ernst in Kingswood, western Sydney, Australia, who was pregnant when the incident occurred.

Authorities responded to a residence around 12:15 am on Sunday, May 21, 2017, where Hayley was discovered unresponsive. Despite efforts by New South Wales Ambulance paramedics, she tragically passed away on the scene.

Initially, a 21-year-old individual, who had a relationship with Hayley, was charged with violating a protective order in a domestic violence case and faced legal proceedings. However, on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, detectives arrested a 30-year-old man at a location near Coffs Harbour.

Video footage released by NSW Police displayed the apprehension of the tattooed suspect as he was escorted into a police vehicle. He was transported to Coffs Harbour Police Station and formally accused of murder, with a scheduled court appearance before the Bail Division later that day.

Due to the suspicious nature of Hayley’s death, extensive investigations were conducted following the 2017 incident. In 2025, a coronial inquest was halted, leading to the matter being referred to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

In October 2025, Nepean Police Command detectives reopened the case and continued their inquiries. Following additional investigations and a public plea, authorities from a special task force detained the 30-year-old suspect nearly nine years after Hayley’s tragic demise.
