Brits Blame Trump for Energy Price Hike Chaos

Share

Donald Trump is being held accountable by the majority of Brits for the impending rise in energy costs that will impact households in the UK due to his involvement in the conflict in Iran, as revealed by a recent poll conducted by Survation for the End Fuel Poverty Coalition.

A substantial 65% of individuals also point the finger directly at the energy sector for the situation.

The frustration is so pronounced that 63% of respondents view the impending price hikes as a ‘Trump Tax’ on their energy bills.

This sentiment arises as Trump has been pressuring the UK to resume drilling activities in the North Sea, subsequent to the decision by Keir Starmer’s administration to cease issuing new licenses.

A majority, accounting for 64%, believe that the energy industry is capitalizing on the conflict in Iran.

Furthermore, voters from all political affiliations are in favor of the Windfall Tax – or Energy Profits Levy – on energy companies, with nearly half (47%) expressing a desire for its expansion to encompass more firms within the sector.

Simon Francis, the coordinator of the End Fuel Poverty Coalition, highlighted the looming challenges, stating, “Millions of households are already making sacrifices on essential expenses, and the worst of the price increases are yet to come.”

Robert Palmer, the deputy director of Uplift, an organization advocating for a fair transition away from North Sea oil, added, “People are aware that they are facing a direct impact from the ‘Trump Tax.’ We are confronting escalating energy bills, soaring fuel costs, and pricier mortgages.”

Palmer emphasized the necessity of shifting towards renewable energy sources such as wind power and upgrading homes with solar panels and heat pumps to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and ensure a sustainable future, a sentiment echoed by public opinion despite Trump’s differing stance.

It is imperative for the government to support individuals looking to enhance their homes and gain better control over their energy expenses, especially for those facing financial challenges.
