A British expat who recently moved to Australia has shared insights on the lesser-known aspects of relocating to a new country. Cat Scully, aged 31, made the significant decision to leave her life in Newcastle behind and settle in Australia in 2021, seeking a better work-life balance and a more outdoor-oriented lifestyle. After exploring various regions in Western Australia, Cat ultimately chose Perth due to its relaxed atmosphere and diverse surroundings encompassing pristine beaches, scenic hills, and vibrant urban settings.
Having lived in Australia for five years now, Cat has comfortably adjusted to her new life and recently obtained Australian citizenship. Together with her husband, she enjoys evenings by the beach and weekends exploring the nearby areas. However, transitioning to a different continent and revamping her routine posed challenges, as Cat revealed unexpected aspects of her experience to 1st Move International, a relocation service to Australia.
Cat highlighted the shift in her daily schedule, noting that social activities now revolve around early mornings for activities like walks, beach outings, or breakfast meetings at 7:30 or 8 am. Embracing the Australian coffee culture, she mentioned the wide array of coffee options available, unintentionally turning expats into discerning coffee enthusiasts. The abundance of avocados in Australia also caught Cat’s attention, with the fruit being a common and affordable staple in her new diet.
Contrasting the gloomy winters of the UK, Cat emphasized the newfound appreciation for evenings and weekends in Australia, where beach sunsets, outdoor dinners, riverside jogs, and impromptu bush trips have become regular pastimes. Reflecting on her lifestyle change, she expressed contentment with the more outdoor-centric and balanced living in Australia compared to the fast-paced UK environment she left behind.
Now settled in Australia, Cat chronicles her experiences on her YouTube channel, showcasing the reality of life on the opposite side of the globe and sharing her weekend escapades to destinations like Fremantle and Melbourne.
