A British visitor was swiftly taken to the hospital after plunging from the second level of his Lanzarote lodging into a shallow fish pond occupied by Koi carp and terrapins.
Emergency responders, including firefighters and medical personnel, were called to assist the vacationer following the accident at the luxurious H10 Rubicon Horizons Collection in the renowned Playa Blanca resort.
The incident occurred approximately at 11:30 pm on Saturday. The man, aged 70, tumbled into the fish pond, located two floors beneath the street level adjacent to a hotel buffet restaurant, where the water depth was only around 15 inches.
While specifics of the incident emerged over the weekend, confirmation of the individual’s age and nationality was provided by informed sources later on. A source mentioned, “It’s being treated as an accident. It seems he was on the second floor with his spouse, leaned over to observe the fish pond below, lost his balance, and fell.”
Upon the firefighters’ arrival, medical staff had already secured the elderly tourist with a neck brace. Using a rescue board, they carefully extracted him and transferred him to an awaiting ambulance.
Subsequently, the injured individual was transported to Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote. Presently, his current medical condition remains undisclosed.
In response to the incident, local law enforcement and Civil Guard officers were activated by a regional government emergency coordination center.
The hotel, formerly known as the H10 Rubicon Palace, where the incident occurred, declined to comment citing “client confidentiality.”
