Iconic Dubai Hotel Jumeirah Burj Al Arab to Temporarily Close for Renovation

A renowned Dubai hotel has revealed its decision to shut down temporarily. The luxurious Jumeirah Burj Al Arab in the UAE will undergo an 18-month closure for a meticulous renovation process focused on enhancing its iconic decor. The hotel did not directly reference the ongoing conflict in the Middle East involving US-Israeli forces and Iran, which has resulted in Iranian drone strikes in the Gulf region, including Dubai.

According to Middle East Eye (MEE), the recent strikes by Iran on UAE and other Gulf states hosting US bases have triggered an exodus of foreign expatriates and tourists from the area. The hotel released a statement on its website stating that the restoration program aims to refresh and upgrade the hotel’s iconic decor while maintaining its unique charm, following more than 25 years of continuous operation.

MEE also reported that the hotel suffered damage from debris resulting from the interception of an Iranian drone attack in March. Despite most drones being intercepted, debris caused damage in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, affecting prominent locations like the Burj Al Arab, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai airport, and the Fujairah oil industrial zone. The conflict and the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz continue to impact flights and tourism due to the rise in jet fuel costs, as highlighted by the Express.

Emirates recently announced a reduced flight schedule to over 100 destinations amid the fragile two-week ceasefire declared by Iran and the US. The situation has led to significant disruptions in the region, with the closure of key tourist attractions and a decline in tourist numbers.
