Chessington World of Adventures will soon be home to Minecraft World, a £50 million project developed through a collaboration between Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios. Scheduled to open in 2027, Minecraft World aims to bring the popular game’s iconic biomes, mobs, and items to life in a physical theme park setting for the first time.
The announcement of the world’s first fully immersive Minecraft theme park land in the UK has been anticipated for some time, with the location now revealed. The new land is set to offer a variety of Minecraft-themed attractions, including a thrilling coaster, interactive adventures, block-built playscapes, and themed retail and dining experiences.
Angela Jobson, SVP of global brand at Merlin Entertainments, expressed excitement about the project, stating that Minecraft World will provide a platform for friends and families to engage in creative and adventurous experiences on a grand scale. Working closely with Mojang Studios, the team is dedicated to creating an authentic world that will captivate Minecraft fans and offer a fresh way to experience the game.
While specifics about the rides remain undisclosed, Chessington promises that they will embody the unmistakable essence of Minecraft. Transformation of the former Wild Asia area into the Minecraft zone is already underway.
Torfi Frans Ólafsson, senior creative director of Entertainment at Minecraft, highlighted the significance of Minecraft World as a milestone in expanding the Minecraft universe. The collaboration with Merlin Entertainments aims to provide an immersive and authentic experience where visitors can explore the Minecraft Overworld and embark on adventures with family and friends.
