Former President Donald Trump responded with a concise yet strong statement regarding the individual who caused a disruption at the White House correspondents’ dinner, leading to the evacuation of the event.
Identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen, the alleged shooter was apprehended after chaos erupted at the ballroom hosting approximately 2,500 attendees, including Donald Trump, Melania Trump, and various high-ranking U.S. officials. Amid the incident, security personnel swiftly escorted Trump to safety without harm.
Surveillance footage from the Washington Hilton hotel lobby captured the suspect bypassing a security checkpoint near the ballroom, where he discharged a weapon at a close range, fortunately hitting an officer’s bulletproof vest, saving the officer’s life.
The episode transpired around 8:35 pm local time on a Saturday night, with Trump later addressing the media and condemning the assailant’s actions. Describing the suspected gunman as a “lone wolf whack job,” Trump emphasized the need to prevent such incidents, stating, “He’s a sick person, very sick person, and we don’t want things like this to happen.”
Reflecting on the string of threats he has faced since 2024, including an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, Trump expressed the necessity for heightened security measures while asserting the resilience of American society.
Authorities disclosed that the armed suspect, hailing from Torrance, California, possessed multiple weapons, including a shotgun, handgun, and knives. Notably, he had no prior criminal record and was not flagged by law enforcement.
The U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Jeanine Pirro, announced that the suspect is anticipated to appear in court for formal charges, including the use of a firearm during a violent crime.
Allen, a part-time educator and video game developer as per his LinkedIn profile, was recognized as “teacher of the month” by his employer, C2 Education, in December 2024.
